What are swingers, who are these swingers, where do I find them and how did the lifestyle start?

We get asked these questions all the time. The dictionary defines swinging as lively, active, modern, hip, also free and uninhibited sexually, and exchanging spouses for sex. We don't really like the last definition as it is so much more than exchanging spouses for sex or wife swapping. We like the first part as most people in the lifestyle are lively, active, modern and hip, but we think the best definition is one who is free and uninhibited sexually. Different forms of swinging go back centuries but most track back modern swinging to the 50's and the military (the Air Force to be exact). This quickly spread to the suburbs off the military bases and the media started calling it wife swapping. Key exchanges began to be popular. Couples would pick out a different couples house key and that is who they swapped with for the night. Then in the 1960's the Sexual Freedom League was started in the San Francisco Bay Area and later turned into an umbrella organization called the North American Swing Club Association (NASCA). Today you can find a swing club in almost every city in the United States and many foreign countries.
